There's a brand-new Route 66 bench sitting at one of Holbrook's busiest corners, and the story behind it, including where that old sandstone rock ended up and what's coming next for that spot, is the kind of thing people are already talking about all over town.

It's going to be a warm one, with highs reaching 91 degrees and lows dipping down to 65. Classic early September in Holbrook, warm enough to feel like summer isn't ready to let go just yet.
That said, don't put the umbrella away. There's some stormy weather mixed in alongside the sunny stretches this week, so if you're headed out to cheer on the Roadrunners at one of their home matches, it's worth keeping an eye on the sky before you go.

The Holbrook Masonic Lodge is serving up BBQ on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, from 11am until 2pm or until it sells out. A $15 plate gets you BBQ, beans, corn on the cob, coleslaw, a roll, and a cookie. Proceeds go to Cloth-a-Child. Find it behind the Masonic Lodge, next to Wells Fargo.

First Southern Baptist Church of Holbrook is handing out free food boxes on Thursday, September 10 starting at 10am, while supplies last.

Petrified Forest National Park is bringing its rangers to the Holbrook Public Library for a free family evening about the difference between archeology and paleontology. Meet park rangers, catch a few short ranger programs, and make some fun crafts.

The 95th Navajo County Fair and Rodeo runs a full week at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in Holbrook. Gates open Wednesday, September 16 with opening ceremonies at 5:30 pm, and the fun runs through Sunday, September 20. Details
The Navajo County Fair and Rodeo hosts its 2nd Annual Rodeo Scramble Golf Tournament at Hidden Cove Golf Course. Three-man teams, with buckles and cash going to the winners. Sign-in starts at 8 AM and tee off is at 9 AM, and it lands right in the middle of fair and rodeo week. Details
The Navajo County Fair and Rodeo puts on its 5K, 10K and 2-mile run and walk on the Saturday morning of fair week. Everything starts from the Navajo County U of A Cooperative Extension office parking lot at 478 North 3rd Street, out at the fairgrounds. Details
Pedal the Petrified is back. NPC Friends & Family hosts this non-competitive cycling tour through Petrified Forest National Park to raise money for Northland Pioneer College student scholarships. Details

John Paget's feature documentary about the Mother Road plays the historic Roxy Theater as part of its Arizona Roadshow, then the director and some of the real people from the film stick around for a live conversation. Tickets are $10 and it is one night only.

There is a new bench on the corner of Hopi Drive and Navajo Boulevard, and it is hard to miss. A big metal Route 66 shield rides on the back of it.That corner used to hold the large sandstone rock with the Route 66 logo painted on it, and plenty of folks were upset when it disappeared. Then the bench went in, and the grumbling turned into photo stops.The rock did not go far. It now sits out front of the Circle K on Navajo Boulevard, and the City says that little spot is getting turned into a proper tourist pull-off where travelers can hop out and take pictures. Word around town is the Circle K will be moving downtown to the Dairy Queen location before long, which would make that corner even more of a stop.A thank-you is in order. Rick and Twyla Taylor paid for the materials, Wes King from NPC helped build the bench, and the City moved it into place and got it installed. Go sit on it, snap a picture, and show it off.
