The hunt is over, and a brand new one starts today. After five weeks of clues, somebody finally put the letters together and walked away a hundred dollars richer. Holbrook's history just got interactive. The new Historic Holbrook walking tour is live on the website, an interactive map of downtown loaded with then and now photos, so you can stand in front of a building today and see exactly what it looked like a century ago. The 95th Navajo County Fair and Rodeo runs a full week at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in Holbrook. Gates open Wednesday, September 16 with opening ceremonies at 5:30 pm, and the fun runs through Sunday, September 20. Details
Talk of the Town
Something's brewing at the Motherload Market, and this week the first clue dropped. Their words, not ours: shhh, something LOUD is coming to Holbrook on September 6. The good kind of loud, they promise.
Then came a second hint, and it's a fun one: do you know what a rat rod is? That's all anyone's getting for now. But if bare steel, big engines, and the rumble of straight pipes mean anything to you, you can probably feel where this might be headed. Nobody official is saying a word.
Holbrook Lore
1.18 acres of letting go
Drive out east of town toward the Petrified Forest and you'll pass it without ever knowing: 1.18 acres of open desert, a stone's throw off old Route 66, with a small orange shed standing alone in the middle of it. It's called the Plotz Plot, and it might be the strangest little landmark in Navajo County.
The plot belongs to the folks at Atlas Obscura, the travel outfit that catalogs the world's hidden wonders. In 2020, when their longtime leader David Plotz moved on, his coworkers skipped the gold watch. They bought a piece of the Arizona desert on eBay, put his name on it, and turned it into a monument to moving on.
The shed carries a simple invitation: for those experiencing a life transition, this is a place to leave behind a piece of your former self. Plotz went first, leaving behind the backpack he carried through his years on the job. Travelers have been adding to the shelves ever since, ordinary objects that meant something once, retired to the high desert. The wind flattened the original shed a while back and it was rebuilt, which feels right. Even a monument to letting go deserves a second chapter.
So if you find yourself out that way and feel like marking a turning point of your own, you know where to go. Holbrook's always been good at collecting travelers' stories. This is just the newest shelf.

First, the news everyone's been waiting for: the Hidden Hundred was FOUND. The letters unscrambled to UNDER BRIDGE, and that's exactly where it was, under the main bridge on the south side of town where the highway crosses the Little Colorado, just a few steps off the levee walk. Congratulations to our sharp eyed finder, and thank you to everyone who hunted all month.
Now we do it all again. Each week we'll run a photo clue from around Holbrook with a few letters shaded in the answer. Solve the spot, write down the shaded letters, and keep collecting. When the last clue runs, a new hundred goes into hiding, and your letters will unscramble to spell exactly where it is. First to find it keeps it, and subscribers always get the clues first.
